help question Trying to Improve Performance

New Site www.highbeams.ca having some growing pains. Performance issues.

Initial page loads up ok but when a user selects a product, it takes a long time to retrieve and display.

As an example if you click on the "New Product" or "Featured Product" it takes an extremly long time to show.

My Hosting company says everything appears to be ok at their end.

Looking for suggestions / help / direction on anything I can do to improve the speed.

    One suggestion was ....
Configuration > Page Cache Settings > Enable page cache

I can't seem to find this setting.

Turn off product count (if you dont know how, search the forum)
Optimize your images (size too big). You can install Image Handler 2 for auto optimization.
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

Thanks... is Product Counts the same as Category Counts?
Most of my images are 30-50K in size... so I consider these to be ok, but it may be worth checking this out.

    Yes.
As for image, most my thumbnail images are 3-5kb with almost the same size and overall quality as yours.

Issue still seems to be the moving from page to page ... slow.

Each page shown by default appears to bring up 5 pictures (new product, Featured products, Specials and a couple of sponsor boxes)
I'll see what I can do to reduce the pic sizes... but I feel it is something else.

I've tested with disabling all ...
    Banner_boxes all
    Specials
    Features
    What's new

    Still seems slow

Your image files are too big - the main page is over 200k! (should be 50 ideally, 100k max)

    Thanks Kim,
I'll reduce the images on the main page... but my issue appears to be going to the next page...or any new link.

IMHO the Main page presents itself ok (acceptable, livable, but agree could be better)

    Other things I'm looking at:

GZip Compression is currently 0 = Off
and the Tools / Session/Version setting for PHP Output_Buffering has a value of "No Value"

Any recomendation on tweaking these. (from the s-start Your Web store with Zen-Cart maunal/book) Chap 22 - System Administration.

First, try turning off the page counter and second - REMOVE the link to your admin and follow the security procedures in your /docs/ directory.

Ok. I'm a dummy - where do you control the Page Counter? Looked all over and Searched here.

Admin stuff removed (I agree..it was there as a quick link for my users)
I'll follow-up on security issues later.. trying to address my performance thingy)
