If you are using windows on the local host, windows may hide that file. Make sure you tell windows to show all hidden files.

Try the following:
Open a Terminal window (Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
Inside the Terminal window, type the command:
Now your Finder windows will show all hidden files.Code:defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE killall Finder
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DELETE ANY FILE YOU DON'T WANT GONE!
These "dot" files do exist in your MAMP folder.... as was suggested rename them from .htaccess to htaccess.txt
To turn this off, just use the command (within the Terminal.app)
