red flag Restricting supply of some products to one country

I am sorry if this has been discussed previously, but I can't find it.

I am a natural therapist and supply "practitioner only" products - mainly Metagenics - to vitually all countries.

Some of these products need refrigeration and therefore can only withstand a short journey without being kept cool.

As an example please see this product.

I want to block orders of these products to countries other than Australia and to certain areas within Australia bc shipping takes too long or destinations are in the tropics.

How can I achieve this selective restriction? I am running version 1.3.7.1

    Thanks for your help

    Frank

    Hi there
Are you currently using shipping zones? Eg to calculate your shipping cost?

    thanks wolfsz

yes, I do - not within Oz but elsewhere on the globe - shipping is based on weight and the usual Aus Post shipping charges (efficient mob - NOT!!)

    Zones are based on

    1. AUS

    2. NZ

    3. rest of the globe

Do you have any clue how to fix this one?

BTW my mobile is 0412-566 337

    Thanks Frank

    Hi again
I haven't done this myself however it seems to me that you would need to allocate the Rest of Globe zone to every country you ship to. This would then mean that those you do not ship to have no zone assigned to them and ZC will therefore not accept an order from those countries. In my setup I have one country "Australia" and allocated to it as zones the Australian states. If anyone from a different country then Australia trys to place an order ZC will refuse.

that's all fine and good if you don't want to ship to some countries at all - it makes sense to me.

But in my case I want to restrict shipping of certain products only - namely the ones which need refrigeration, these "good bacteria" simply would not survive a long journey (say to Europe or the US).

A customer may want to order some vitamins and some herbals plus a bottle of "Ultra Flora" or "Probex". If I could find a solution then the system would simply say, ok customer you can have the herbals and the vitamins but not the "probex" (or whatever needs refrigeration).

I know this is a difficult one, but if there is a problem then there is a solution.

One could allocate zones to products but this would mean major coding and I am not that savvy along these lines.

BTW - had a look at your site, top stuff! Shame I am not in the market for hinges and knobs.

    Thanks for your help sofar

    Cheers / Frank

    Hi again
I mis-understood your requirements of only wanting to limit certain products to certain countries. One possibility is that you shift the responsibility to the customer. Eg "This product needs refriegiration and transfort time should not exceed x days. We do not recommend that you buy this if you are in WA or outside of Australia."
Thanks for having a look at my site. You never know the need for a new knob might arise at some stage.

yes, posting some sort of warning, that's what I have done on all the products in question.

    eg

"This product is sensitive to heat and can only be shipped to Australian capital cities and to other destinations within Australia (excluding Darwin) where Australia Post guarantees Next Day Delivery by Express Post. Click to check suitability of your destination."
But people only read half the stuff and hit "add to cart" regardless. I am then faced with giving explanations that they would be buying something which cannot withstand the journey, refund the money for that product etc etc

Does not create happy customers - and that's what we are all about: keeping our customers happy.

Thanks for your time and advice wolfsz

If anyone else can come up with a reasonably implementable solution then please contact me directly via a personal message.

I got around the issue by hiring "that software guy" from these forums .
He came up with customized changes which met my requirements very quickly.
I restricted various products for different zones and countries.
