Text Atrributes

Hi,
HELP!
I have tried using every combination of text attributes in Option Names for TEXT and searched everywhere for the answer to no avail.

I need a Text input box that is

5 lines max
30 characters per line
plus the first 40 characters are at no charge extras are.45 each.

I can get one or 2 features to work but not all 3 together?
Any help is appreciated.

On the Option Name Manager, I make:
Option Name: Your Text
Option Type: TEXT

then click Insert ...

Next, I edit this and change the settings for:

Rows: 5
Display Size: 30
Maximum length: 150

then click update ...


Now I go to the Attributes Controller and find the Product and add the Your Text option name with the option value of TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES] and set the
Price per Letter: .45
Free Letters: 40


And that's it ...


The only part I am not very good at is the stylesheet settings to make IE work the same way as FireFox on the input box ...

FireFox 2.x listens well to the settings and IE at least on 6.x does not listen to the settings other than the total size of the input box ...

FireFox is smart and does exactly what is asked for and IE is all fussy and does whatever it wants with the box ...

To have this work 100% with all browsers, perhaps one of the designer guys would like to jump in here ...

Well I tried, still wouldn't work exactly how I need it.
It allows me to type 150 characters in one line (I know who would do that - just testing).

If it's words it returns to next line after 30. However it allows me to type as many lines as I want within 150 characters (over my 5 max lines).

Also if I type more than 150 characters then it deletes everything I already typed?

I even tried creating 5 one line boxes, but the text costs still don't add up.

By "lines" do you mean "carriage returns - CR"? The text box described is five "lines" deep, but does not generate CR.

Yes, carriage returns.

This is for an engraving Company I have a 5 line max with 30 characters per line.
Do you know of a way to achieve this?

Adding comments by hitting EDIT on the Option Name might help ...

Unless you get into some specialized coding for this, I don't think you will hit the perfect world for this criteria of:

Up to 5 lines
Up to 30 characters per line
.45 per character
40 characters free

If I get this figured out using code (LOL)I will post.

It would help if the browsers were friends and had commonality on the functionality for the TEXTAREA ...

NOTE: the disappearing text is just because you blew thru typing past the limit ...

We will have to fool with this more on a future release to gain even more control over the little details ...

In Afrikaans there's a tiny South African village called "Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskitisfontein" and there's a Wales town called "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"... but they fall short of 150 letters!
