Default Help, I messed this up completely.

I was trying to upgrade from 1.3.7.1 to 1.3.8a and that led a huge turn of events that leaves me with nothing. I installed with Fantastico and i failed to realize there was an UPDATE button.. that now does not work because i messed up the schemes.

What I have on my site now is nothing. No databases, no zencart files. I was just starting to put it together.

    What I do have, is:

Backup of all site files prior to ANY update attempts(the main dir)

Backup of SQL prior to any update attempts.

I have attempted several times to follow the guides to upgrading, and i dont know what i did wrong but i got many errors etc. What I would like to do now is get to 1.3.8a.

All i have is the files mentioned above.

    Thanks in advance

Let's pretend you totally blew up your site and destroyed everything ... oopps ... guess you did, eh?

Not to panick ... it cannot get much worse ...

Good news is you have a backup of your v1.3.7.1 database ...

Download Zen Cart v1.3.8a from our site and FTP all the files to your site ...

Empty your database via phpMyAdmin and load your backup of your v1.3.7.1 database ...

Now run the /zc_install and hit the UPGRADE DATABASE ... and NOT the INSTALL button ...

If you do NOT see the UPGRADE button, check that you have two configure.php files loaded for your site that were working before this all happened in:
    /includes/configure.php
    /admin/includes/configure.php

This should get you back to where you would of been before the goof ...

    NOTE: v1.3.8a is at:
    http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81696

Plus a link to any known tweaks you may wish to make that were caught after its release ...

It didnt work.. I deleted the old db, and made a new one (injected_zc)

the old one i used had the suffix zc1

So i figured the config files might have the wrong db

i changed db name and db password and still didnt get an upgrade option..

    What am i doing wrong?

sorry for a bump again, but its really important i get this up.. and i dont know what to do. It seems my config files arent being able to connect to the db. For DB USER and DB PASSWORD do i put my cPanel user/pw or the mysql one? In "Mysql DB's" in cpanel, theres an option to create user. i made a new one and put in the credentials but it didnt work, still.

What does emptying the database and then restoring from backup do for you? In other words, what happens if you try to upgrade the database without doing this. Sounds to me like you get exactly what you started with, so why do it?

The user and password should be the ones associated with the database. Make certain the config files are pointing to the correct database.

Cpanel user and password is also your mysql root password, which you should NEVER use in this case.

You have to use the username and password that you created and assigned to ZC database (all this is done on Cpanel).
