Default Help please: adding "options" to products (sql query)

    Hello,
I'm working on a zen cart site, and I need to add 3 options to every product in database. For some products I need to add 4. There are many products listed in my db, so instead of doing it manually, I was thinking of doing it with php and queries.

My problem is that I don't know where to add (table/field name) so that all products can show their appropriate option.
Can someone please give me a SQL query, or just let me know which table to add "product option" in, and most important how to connect options to products.
Thanks in advance for the help :)

Why not just create the attributes for 2 products - the 2 different ones with different options, then use the copy option to category using the attributes controller? Or have I totally misread your dilemma?

    Hi Marg,
I don't know about adding attributes as well...
Most of these options are different. They are actually color information for different products. Some of them have (red, green) while others may have (black, blue etc)
Is there a simple process I can follow to add these using SQL queries? Like I first add to attributes table (I don't know fields) generating an autoincrement number, I put this number with some other info to some other table (I don't know table/field) and so on...
Please let me know the process/steps for this.
    Thank you :)

I think you'll find that what you are trying to do will not work as you expect. If you'd like me to take a look, please feel free to pm me.

It sounds like you are trying to achieve customized results with a blanket approach. This is unlikely to work without actually, well, customizing whatever method you use. Whatever you do will require a separate base for each combination you want to apply.

    Hi,
Can you please tell me which page/functions are being used to display the "detailed" product page, and where can I find these files?
    Thank you :)

    /includes/templates/your_template/templates/tpl_product_info_display.php.

What might work best for you is to set up base products with full sets of attributes, like all of the colors that are likely to be used. Bulk copy those to categories, and go through the products and delete the colors that do not apply. Quicker than adding new attributes.

    Hello,
Thanks :) I found the files. My problem is that I have to update the db with a XML feed, so the manual interface of admin won't work in this case. I need to extract data from that feed using php, and then update the db with this info.

The methods you mentioned are very useful if I could used admin panel, but that's not an option... I should have mentioned this before. I'm so sorry...
Thank you for the files. I'll try to figure that out (which I'm not sure I'll be able to.)

If you guys figure out something, or have some queries I can use, then please let me know.
    Thanks :)
