Company Name in registration - question

Is it possible to keep the Company Name field but make it so its not required? So if you have a company you can put it in, but if you dont have a company, the registration wont fail because it requires a Company Name??

I found where to disable the company name field, but I dont know thats what I want to accomplish...I just dont want the field to be required for registration to be complete??

I have the opposite problem. I want the company field to be required. I looked through the forum and found that if I set the minimum value to more than 0 in admin this should work - but it doesn't. I have this set to 2 but still registrations come in without the company field filled in. I am using 1.3.8a.

Any help welcome - thanks in advance.
