Default scared!! 1.37 to 1.38 via Fantastico

    Hi Guys,

I guess I have to use fantastico program to upgrade my zen cart.

    I have a few add-ons, maybe 3-4 but a custom template.

I am very nervous about allowing this to upgrade for me.

    """
    Zen Cart
    Location Installed Version Upgrade Link
    / 1.3.7.1 Upgrade to 1.3.8a
    """"

I am kinda a newbie and haven't learned how to back up my 1.37...
although I think my host does this for me anyways.
    bluehost.com

Any one have a suggestion? or should I just stick with 1.37??

Side note: the only way for me to have zen cart was to load it via fantastico (which makes install very easy) via my host company.

    Hope this makes sense?

    Thanks
    Peter

Dont ever upgrade it via Fantastico, it will mess up your site.
I no longer provide installation support on forum for all my modules. However, if there are real bugs with the modules please feel free to contact me

    That's what I thought?

But do I have another choice.

I remember to get zen, I had to go this route.

Fantastico installed it in seconds and I have had no issues at all.
other than my own dumb mistakes.

maybe I should just stick with 1.37?
Not sure the upgrade is really going to help me. I do try to keep up to date with zen.

    Now I am lost...

    Anyone

There are some security improvements and bugfixes from 1.3.7 to 1.3.8, but the main difference is the Paypal Website Payments Pro support. If that doesn't mean anything for you, you may be ok for now. There are some security patches you can apply now to a 1.3.7 site. There will be a lot of important improvements in v1.4, due out within a few months at last word, and you really should upgrade then if you don't now. Keeping current with upgrades does make it easier to go from one to the next instead of making a big skip-jump.

    Thanks...

I don't use paypal at all. I enter CC offline from Zen Cart.

Yes, I need to get my ######## in gear and keep current.

I can only hope the 1.4v I can upgrade with out losing my template.
I have only a few add-ons. It's just the custom template, etc.

Question: can someone have a "pro" do this for $$? I have no problem throwing a few bucks for a right upgrade when ready.

    Thanks!
    Peter

As we all eagerly wait for 1.4, it's a good idea to start spending time making sure our site configurations are consistent with the over-rides "laws".

So, starting today, I'm going to be going through all my sites to make sure that template edits are consistent with the over-rides system.

Then, by the time 1.4 is released, I should be feeling very confident about running an upgrade.

Even though have template override system in operation,
when upgrading, usually switch to Classic template first..
means any problems with custom template can be sorted,
without site going pear shaped after upgrade completed.

I was going to wait for 1.4 to upgrade from 1.3.7 but after a silly stuff up I will have to go to 1.3.8. I can't access my customer list but I can access orders, my Aus Post mod is stuffed and customers can't complete checkout ... well, I do feel upgrading will be easier.

I have backed up my db and site files and I was going to do the upgrade via Fantastico deluxe available via cpanel on my host. But someone said fantasticoo is bad. So do I go the manual way? Can someone else share some mor info about this?

    Thank you.
