Hi psarapas,
Alternatively, you might want to edit the following file directly on your Mac (which is equivalent to the Windows host file)
and then run the following command to make sure your Mac picks up the new entries in your host file.Code:/etc/hosts
You might need to restart your Mac if your settings are not picked up after running the above command.Code:sudo kill -HUP `cat /var/run/lookupd.pid`
On the issue of MAMP/XAMMP on the Mac, you can choose to run either of the them but so far MAMP seems much easier on the Mac as you are less likely to work with the command line and itis better integrated into the OS X environment making it more intuitive for Mac users.
One final note, do remember to turn off Personal Web Sharing on your Mac as just in case it conflicts with your MAMP/XAMPP's Apache port.

Thank you all for the help. Will go with MAMP and will report back when I have (successfully) reconfigured the machine.
