Default error messages that are not true...

When I got to the Zen Cart setup--system inspection page, I got to "X" messages. The first said that the file /includes/configure.php does not exist...

so I followed these directions and renamed the file

" /includes/dist-configure.php to configure.php. After creating it, you need to mark it read-write or CHMOD 666 or CHMOD 777 for installation.

and I made sure that I can write to the file.

Here is the problem: When I restart the computer and XAMMP and return to this step--I still get the same error message--that the file does not exist and that I can't read or write to the file. BOTH ARE NOT TRUE! What gives? How can I get the zen cart installer to see that this file does exist and that I have write privileges???

    ps--xampp is running also...

    thank you!

The messages are telling you that the apache+PHP setup on your computer does not have permission to read(see) or write to the file mentioned.

"You" may be able to see and write to it, but you've apparently not given permission for your apache service to write to it.

yep--exactly! I went into( XAMPP top file) and gave the file global permissions (which included the apache app). and that did the trick.

    Thanks Dr. B--another case cracked!!
