Did you tinker with the "Down for Maintenance" settings?

Believe I figured out that problem. Didn't have my MySQL activated.

DANG! Thought I had the installation finished. Turns out that I skipped the Email (Mercury/Thunderbird) portion thinking that I could create an account in my Entourage Email. Now it turns out that I need some kind of SERVER connected to my local machine that can connect to Entourage. I can't seem to find a free server to use. Instructions on one informative page re: my mac said not to use the one that came with the computer--can't remember why.

Any help here regarding free servers for a local account (???) on my mac would be deeply appreciated.

Just when one problem gets solved another one pops up.

(Remember, I'm still a beginner at this.)

    Prof -

I just finished installing ZCart on my Mac, and have set up the mail in the E-Mail Options section so that the E-Mail Transport Method is smtpauth.

Then I set the areas at the bottom of the E-Mail Options section as:

    SMTP Email Account Mailbox: yourusername
    SMTP Email Account Password: yourpassword
    SMTP Email Mail Host: mail.yourdomain.net

    It seems to work fine.

cbird1057, I've tried at least 100 different configurations of what I believe worked for you, but it still isn't working for me. (I was really hopeful, and will try again, but I think something is set differently on my computer--have no idea what) Went to the ZC Wiki, looked up troubleshooting, email... and I can't understand what it says.

SMTP Email Account Mailbox: yourusername (can't find a user name, have an Account Name, a Name, an E-mail address, and Account ID, a POP server and and SMTP server

SMTP Email Account Password: yourpassword (this seems obvious and I think no problem)

SMTP Email Mail Host: mail.yourdomain.net (kind of confused here--could it be something like mail.brockport.edu ? I don't see anything like that in my account set up)

    I'm really at a loss.

From what I understand, I'm trying to connect to the email program/connections I already have. Right? I have three E-mail accounts hosted from three different servers. Should I be trying to connect to one of those?

Again, any and all suggestions will be welcome.

cbird1057, thanks for your info. I'll keep trying, but something seems to be amiss.

    Additionally,

When I "send emal" I'm not sure I've completed the fields correctly.

to = my customer's name (fake name and fake email address set up in the beginning of the store info)

from = my email address (from one of the three accounts I already have)

subject and message seem to be no problem.

Sorry to hear you are having difficulty.

I assume you have a dedicated mail server and are not using a hotmail account or something like that.

The SMTP account: yourusername refers to the name you log on to your mail server with.

The password is the password for the above account.

SMTP host: mail.yourdomain.net is the mail server you use.

I basically just copied the parameters from my Mac Mail account. Go to "Mail" menu in Mac Mail, then Preferences, then Accounts.

I had to mess around with the E-Mail Transport Method (top line of Zen Cart email options in Admin), using PHP, etc until it worked.

It could be that your email account is protected by a firewall or something? If you can't get it to work I would suggest skipping the chapter in the book since there's plenty more to become familiar with in the subsequent material...

Believe me, I'm no guru with this stuff.
