    Default PHP Safe Mode

    Hi,

My ISP is changing the php.ini safe mode setting to "on" tomorrow. Rather than modify the setting in .htaccess, I was wondering whether I could live with it although I read somewhere it could affect some payment modules. Would this apply to Paypal IPN ?

    Cheers

    Pete

Since every server's configuration is different, the answer is: maybe.

It'll likely be fine. But there's ONE way to know: test test test test test.

Fingers crossed then. I read somewhere that "safe_mode" isn't an issue with PHP 5.2.4 (which "my" server runs) and doesn't even exist in PHP 6 so I wonder what the panic is about all of a sudden.

    Cheers

    Maybe you should ask them.

I suspect they've had someone hack into their server and they don't know how to block them efficiently without hindering normal operation, and they're just applying a blanket change because they read about the idea somewhere.

From my observations, and in my opinion, switching PHP to safe mode is not a sign of a skilled server administrator.
