Add Product Details to listings on Home page

Hi all,

I want to add the Product Details (description) to the product listings that displays on the home page.

That is to say I want the image, the title, the price and the description to display in the Featured, New, Upcoming etc. boxes on the home page.

AND

I want to truncate the amount of the description that is actually displayed.

Is this do-able via admin?

I've been looking... and have almost decided to just rewrite the queries but, it would be so much better if this was admin!

I think that there are 4 different displays - featured, new, all, product list.

There are several threads about converting all to a single display and if you find one of the group that satisfies your requirements then search for these threads and what it takes to accomplish this

Yes, I have been searching (on and off all day yesterday) for a simple admin solution. Obviously I wasn't asking the right questions, because I didn't find anything and apparently I wasn't clear on what I wanted based on your response

What I wanted to do was add a synopsis from the descriptions to all product listed on the home page, regardless of category. That is instead of just having the photo, linked title and price (Zen cart default) I wanted the photo, X amount of words from the description, linked title, and price.

I did finally give up after trying a plugin and wrote my own.

I always try to double check that what I am trying to do is or is not:

1. Native to Zen
2. Available in a tested plugin

I am still not sure though. It would seem it should be native to turn on descriptions in the front page.

I've been trying to do this too (think also quite a few others judging by some of the threads I've read). I've managed to find out how to do this for the featured products on the home page, but cannot figure out how to do the one I really want which is the 'new' products shown on the home page. Please could you let me know how you acheived this?

There are the "listings" and then there are the "centerboxes". The listings do all have the descriptions available, but the centerboxes are intended as capsule versions or teasers and have limited features.
Obviously some have developed ways to add more features to the centerboxes.

This did the trick. Do take NOTE for those who may follow this thread. When cutting / pasting into your featured_products.php page, check the $products_description code closely. There is an errant space in the code that needs to be removed for this to work.

I've used this in ZC V: 1.3.8a and it works great.

Why not post the correct code, having removed errant space first..

That space happened because the code was posted without [php] and [/php] tags. The VB software automatically cuts long strings of text so they won't stretch the display; but it leaves code in code boxes alone and uses a scrollbar.
