Select two different shipping methods?

Is there any way possible for a customer to purchase an item that is eligible for free local delivery (using free shipping options), AND an item that MUST be shipped, and select both local delivery for the first item and the shipping method of their choice for the second item?!? Any help or suggestions would be great.

Nevermind; I fixed this by setting all of the deliverable items to a weight of 0 and creating an attribute that allows customers to choose whether or not they want the item to be delivered. If they choose to do so, the item remains at 0 weight, but if they want it shipped, the attribute adds weight and they therefore pay shipping. This way, they don't get charged shipping for an item they are having delivered even if they also purchase items that MUST be shipped.

Phew, I hope that made sense. Sometimes I think I'm a little too close to the project to communicate.
