2 Types of Shipping and mod questions

I'm using the USPS module.

1- I need to have a flat rate of $3 per item with $1 for each additional item ordered. Is this done with attributes? I've looked but it's not making sense...

2- Is it possible to have registered mail for international shipping? How about Insurance?

3- How can I restrict items so they can only be shipped to the US?

For those who wonder, the USPS API does not allow for additional services, like registered or insurance, per their Web Services support.

I still need help on #1 and #2. ;)

[FONT="Times New Roman"]Sounds like you should be using the Per Item shipping module rather than USPS module even if you intend to ship via USPS. The USPS module is designed to pull rates for different shipping options based on total product weight plus whatever tare you have set. It doesn't sound like you want shipping figured that way.

The only way I know of to add a registered/insurance charge would be to set them up as products, and then you would have the problem of how to let the customer know to select those items before checkout. Maybe someone more knowledgable can jump in with a better suggestion.

I really need USPS for International rates (priority and first class). Since insurance is not offered thourgh their API, I don't need to worry about it, just straight rates.

Knowing this, I still need to have a flat rate in the US with $1 for each additional item.

I also need to restrict shipping of specific items to the US.

You can set up different shipping modules for different zones. Create a U.S. zone and set that in the flat rate module, then create a non-U.S. zone and set that in the USPS module.

I have no idea how you could restrict certain items but not others -- hopefully someone more knowledgable will chime in.

Makes sense setting up 2 zones but how do I have shipping to $1 for each additional item?

I haven't found a solution to the shipping restriction though... Any ideas?

Go to Admin - Modules - Shipping. Click on "per item" and install it. Set the "shipping cost" to $1. Set the "handling fee" to $2. That way, the first item will be charged $1 plus $2 handling (the $3 you wanted) and subsequent items will be charged $1 each.

Makes a lot of sense... Good hint for other zenners. :)
I've also set up a Shipping Zone so that flat rate applies only to the US.

That leaves me with restricting shipping to foreign countries. Any ideas?
