Wi,
find the file in your override folder called stylesheet.css
1. Find:
#navMainSearch {
float: right;
}
2. Replace with:
#navMainSearch {
float: right;
margin-top: -2em;
}
I am hoping this is the alignment you desire.
I will look into how to make the fill in box larger to view all the text for you.

Thank you! That worked -- now I'm having a problem with white space at the top.
I appreciate your help!

Ok,
Add this declaration to the stylesheet.css
#headerWrapper {background-color: #5D8435;}

We are not done yet,
Search Box
A. Change Box Size in Search Box
1. includes/ templates/ override folder/ sideboxes/ tpl.search_header.php
1. line 17
2. width= 100 to 135
3. line 19
4. width = 100 to 135
5. ftp the file
Looks dorky with the wording cut off
