    Default Redeem gift certificate/FAQ page

ON the FAQ Gift Certificate page,
    http://www.beautorium.com/index.php?...faq&faq_item=4
it says you can redeem a GC in one of two ways:

"1. By clicking on the link contained within the email for this express purpose. This will take you to the store's Redeem Gift Certificate page. You will then be requested to create an account, before the Gift Certificate is validated and placed in your Gift Certificate Account ready for you to spend it on whatever you want."
HOWEVER I continue to be sent to the account login page when I try to test this, not to a Redeem Gift Certificate page.

IT ALSO SAYS "2. During the checkout process, on the same page that you select a payment method there will be a box to enter a Redemption Code. Enter the Redemption Code here, and click the Redeem button. The code will be validated and the amount added to your Gift Certificate Account. You can then use the amount to purchase any item from our store."
HOWEVER the redeem button does not show up on the checkout page.

Am I totally missing something? Thanks for your help.

    1. you indeed need to log in/register before the gift certificate amount is "apllied" to your account. Once the customer has created a account, the gift amount is visible in the shoppping cart/My account page. So by clicking the link, there is no real redeem page...

    2. If you click continue/next, the gift code is processed. So it is unfortunately not being applied on the spot...

Gift Certificates are, in effect, just a technique to CREDIT someone's account with a cash value. In order to credit an account with this value, there has to BE an account in the first place. If the user is:-

    a: not logged in
    b: not yet registered

...zencart has no idea WHO to apply the credit value to.

Only when the user is registered, or logged in, does zencart know which account to apply the credit value of the GV.

Just following on this I like add that there should some sort of explanation for the new customer who have just received his/her Gift Voucher.

    Received email says -

"To redeem this Gift Certificate, please click on the link below. Please also write down the Redemption Code: d327cf6459 just in case you have problems.

    To redeem please click here
    http://xxxxx.com.au/store/index.php?..._no=d327cf6459

If you have problems redeeming the Gift Certificate using the automated link above, you can also enter the Gift Certificate Redemption Code during the checkout process at our store."

So when the recipient clicks on the link in the email goes straight to 'Register/Login page' . This is obvious to zencart administrators but to someone who just received a gift voucher it is confusing. I think I will change the email to explain that in order to redeem their vaucher they need to open an account first or words to that effect.

Has anyone got any bright ideas about that please? please comment how you have tackled it.

    Thanks

Perhaps customize the Language files to include another paragraph of text that explains that they will need to login for this?
