Customer login by account number ?

I would like to change the customer login by using the Account number (i would define by myself)instead of his email address.
is that possible ...?

Yes this can be custom coded - BUT how do you intend on new customers being able to create an account? They will not have a customer # to use...

I 'm going to create their accounts(customer account# and passwd) and send them Emails about these account .
I guess Master password module can helpo ut here to reset their passwords if needed .

Mine is not that great and thinking about this I believe tha it is more involved than can be addressed on the forum. It will not be altering only a couple of files - I don't think

You will want to retain email functions for order notification, updates etc and only change the login requirements and this is done with a variable so one must be careful not to break the dependency on the email for other things when changing this.

If this is really important you might post in the commercial help area

Obtaining Email address ? I guess I will leave the Email part without touching it ,and linking that address to the account # of the customer ...so modifing the login page and creating a table in the db of the cust account#...etc

If you know what you are doing you can add this to the customer table as an additional record

I did try the commercial section, and did get one message I did reply and since then I did not get anything back, am waiting almost couple of weeks!
