    Default Problems with Thunderbird installation

    Hi there:
    I have installed XAMPP, everything is working fine.
    Trying to configure my e-mail client I have tried to install Thunderbird.
    In my mozilla tool bar I get an "error console" with all of these messages:

    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getLoggingPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.logToFile preference setting is false

    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getPositionPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.position preference setting is right
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffClient.getIntervalPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.intervalSeconds preference setting is 10 seconds
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getHostnamePref():
    thunderbirdbiff.hostname preference setting is localhost
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getPortPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.port preference setting is 25501
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getAnimationPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.useAnimation preference setting is true
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getEmailStartupPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.startupEmail preference setting is false
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getPositionPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.position preference setting is right

    What is wrong? and how can I correct the problem?

    Marlake,

    Have you figured out this problem yet?
    From the messages you're receiving it sounds like Mercury Mail may not like the preferences set in Thunderbird.

    Two messages in particular lead me to believe the problem is because of settings in Thunderbird that don't match what Mercury is expecting.

    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getHostnamePref():
    thunderbirdbiff.hostname preference setting is localhost
    Thunderbird Biff.tBirdBiffUtility.getPortPref():
    thunderbirdbiff.port preference setting is 25501

    If you've followed the XAMPP installation instructions in the book by Goh Koon Hoek, then you should have configured Mercury with the host name of example.com and the default POP3 port is 25 NOT 25501.

    Make sure Mercury is running first. Then check the Thunderbird preferences/properties. If this doesn't resolve your problem, check the Mozilla web site and forums for more information there.

    Marlake,

    Any resolution to this problem yet?
    Have you tried using any other email clients?
    If you have Outlook Express you can see how to configure that here:

    Please let me know if this helps.
