Question about product stock

My store is not going to be 100% an in stock store, so for those products where I don't have stock on hand I still want to show as available. Is there a way to turn off the stock quantity so there is no number but more like a yes/no thing, or should I just put a ridiculously large number in for stock like 1000? Thanks!

Or you could just use the stock configuration options in the Admin to tell your Zen cart to ignore stock levels since you're not using them.

Admin > Configuration > Stock

Well, I don't want to just blanket turn it off for every product. Some stuff I will be keeping in stock and I do want to know when I run low, etc. Other things will be on a special order basis but I want them to show as available in the store.

In that case you will need to do as you suggested, as there is currently no way of turning stock processing off for some products, but leaving it on for others.
