problems with initial zen cart setup

I am installing Zen Cart (installed xampp, put zen cart in htdocs), now on www.example.com/store installation. It's giving me these red warnings at the top:

# CURL problems detected: 7 => couldn't connect to host more info...
# CURL problems detected: 28 => connect() timed out! more info...
# CURL requires SSL support. Please notify webmaster or hosting company. 7 => couldn't connect to host more info..

Then under system inspection results, it gives me these yellow warnings:

# CURL NON-SSL Capability = CURL problems detected: 7 => couldn't connect to host Click here for more info
# CURL SSL Capability = Okay
# CURL NON-SSL Capability via Proxy = CURL problems detected: 28 => connect() timed out! Click here for more info
# CURL SSL Capability via Proxy = CURL requires SSL support. Please notify webmaster or hosting company. 7 => couldn't connect to host Click here for more info

And finally, under 'Other System Information (For Reference Only)', it's giving me this yellow warning:

PHP Output Buffering (gzip) = OFF

What am I doing wrong?

Oh, also when I'm in the xamp control panel, I can never start MySQL. I click start, it goes green for a couple of seconds, then turns off. -_-

Does anyone know how to fix these problems?

Here are some things you can try. Whether it works will depend on your XAMPP and OS version.

For cURL, you may need to uncomment the following line in your <xampp-dir>/apache/bin/php.ini file.

extension=php_curl.dll

For the MySQL problem, you will need to check if there are other software (e.g. another MySQL?) that is causing the problem.

I got the same thing the first time I accessed the cart after installing it. I just checked everything and tried it again and everything was fine. What version of XAMPP did you install? What version of Zen Cart?

When you installed XAMPP did you click the check box that says to install MySQL as a service? If not, you may have to reinstall XAMPP (which means reinstalling Zen Cart).
