v1.2.5 -> v1.3.x - Asking for your advice

Hi,

The company I'm trying to help is running v1.2.5 on some host. They wish to
1) move to a new host
2) have a different domain for the website
3) have this old version upgraded (the old host is running PHP/MySQL4 while the new host is running version 5)

I'm not familiar with PHP, and not the implementor of the 1.2.5 zen-cart they have so I'm not sure which code changes he's done, however it looks like he's done a nice job (in my opinion).

I've postponed this task for a few weeks and I really have to start. I skimmed through the "v1.2.6 -> v1.3.5: What a B!TCH!" thread and now really lost all confidence. I'm not sure I'll be able to do it.

I started to note down code changes between the running 1.2.5 and the original 1.2.5, and tried to see how to I apply them on 1.3.7. Where did the HTMLArea folder disappear? What about the transfer to CSS files I read? This is just an instance of the I feel.

Any recommendations? Perhaps should I try to upgrade to 1.3.0 first?

Well your biggest problem is going to be the fact that 1.2.5 is a tables based template and 1.3.xx templates are div based. so re-writing the template is the major hurdle. the 1.2.5 stylesheet will never work on 1.3.xx
there are so many changes in code between the versions that the only thing you will probably be able to carry across will be the database which than of course you step through the database upgrade to make it compliant with 1.3.8a which is what you'll need to goto if the new host is running php5

So, what would you recommend?

I'm not sure that with my skills I'll be able to carry out this task in a reasonable time (infinite ). Perhaps studying how to customize zen-cart and then applying it on the 1.3.7 I've installed to match the original website changes will be easier?

You might as well install the newest version 1.3.8a as the changes needed to be made are the same as on 1.3.7
I can't read the language so I don't always know what I am looking at but it doesn't look like it will be to terrible difficult.

I hope I'm not spending your/my time - I'll try to upgrade. By the spirit of my questions, please let me know if I should proceed or consider abandoning this project...

To start with:

1) Where is the HTMLarea folder? it exists on 1.2.5 but not on 1.3.7. There were code changes in files in this folder made by the implementor when I compared with a fresh 1.2.5 installation.

2) How can I tell if the implmentor had add-ons? for example, the navigation panel on the right-hand side. Is this a built in sidebox in 1.2.5?

The HTMLArea folder is in the editor directory. The sidebox is the categories sidebox but there has been a mod added to handle the flyout submenus. its probably an older version of this mod http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...products_id=75
