Backorder question

Right now if I have one item in stock and a customer tries to order two fo them, the backorder message appears. How do I let the customer know that one is available?

I'm new at using zencart and i'm worried that the customer will just delete the whole item because they think it's not available. But in fact, there is one out of the two available.

You need to display the available stock on the product detail page:

Admin > Catalog > Product Types > [choose product type] > Edit Layout > Show Quantity in Stock

Assuming your template didn't remove the output, you'll now see the current quantity for products of the given product type.
