Single Product with Multiple Quantities of the Same Attribute

Hello,

I haven't seen an answer to this, but I am new to both Zen Cart and this forum, so if the answer has already been posted please forgive me.

I am in a service business, and I am selling repair and calibration support for a highly configurable product that can have multiple attributes and also multiple quantities of the same attribute.

Example: I have a system with a mainframe that can hold up to 11 plug-in cards of different types. There may be 3 of one type of card, 2 of another type, 5 of another, etc. The price for support changes depending on what types of cards (and how many) are in the mainframe.

I want to be able to sell support for this system as a single product in Zen Cart, and have the customer be able to select the attributes (in this case the types of plug-in modules, and the quantities of each module).

Is this possible???

If I understand this correctly you have product "A" with attributes X, Y, & Z

You would create an attribute name "Card" and then create values associated with Card and these might look like

Card >
mem 1GB
mem 2GB
mem 3GB

(1, 2 , or 3 1GB panels)

Card >
option 1
option 2
etc

Where mem & option represent the # of these desired.
Can be manageabe unless you have 100's of card types

In my scenario, I created a product called "81250A On-Site Calibration Agreement 1-Year" (81250A is the model number of the system).

I created a check-box attribute called "Module Type", and associated the model numbers of the various cards that could be in the system. I have listed a few below -- there are lots of module types.

E4808A
E4809A
E4832A
E4835A
E4838A
E4861A
E4861B

The problem is that the customer could have any number any of the module types( in one case, we have a customer with over 1000 modules). I was hoping to find an easy way for the customer to specify the quantities of whichever modules they have so that they can easily get agreement pricing and purchase an agreement.

I would have to have a firm understanding of all the nuances to even take a stab at developing a solution for this if possible at all. Not really an issue that can be answered in this forum environment in a few responses to your questions.

There is the commercial help area on this forum for things like this.

Can you structure your data in such a way as to have less than 1000 members in a dropdown list? Perhaps break it down by card type, manufacturer, etc.?

To put it a different way....

If I had a widget XYZ that had three different attributes....

Blue Buttons
Green Buttons
Red Buttons

but XYZ could have up to 500 blue buttons AND up to 500 green buttons AND up to 500 red buttons all at the same time.

I wouldn't want to have a drop down with 500 values for each attribute -- that would drive my customers nuts.

What I am looking for is for the customer to be able to select product XYZ and then select his attributes with quantities.

Blue Buttons 23
Green Buttons 15
Red Buttons 10

To make matters worse, in my application the number of different "button colors" would be around 30.


Any ideas???
