$db definition

where in the coding is $db defined straight up? i see it used in all of the functions but cant seem to find how the connection is made. i have found all of the actualy db info that is entered upon set up, but for the life of me can't find what is making up $db. any help is much appreciated.

im not changing anything, i actually want to use the basic coding for the featured part somewhere else on my site that isnt part of the zen cart, but still want to display the same information. but since most of the variables are called from within another file etc i need to find what defines all of them
