Default Good impressions, click through, no sales

    Hi all,

I have been live for a few weeks and I have been using Google Adwords as well as Yahoo Marketing Solutions to market my site. The keywords are optimized correctly, my positioning is also good and my products have good Metatag descriptions. I also checked file sizes with this great free analysis tool and I have no warnings. http://www.sitesolutions.com/analysis.asp?F=form

At this point I am averaging 300 hits per day with no sales (around 2100 hits per week). My products are selling reasonably well offline -- in hotels and specialty gift stores but I want to know what the barriers may be in my online environment.

Statistics show that I do have a small percent of these potential customers going to the Login page -- but none create accounts.

In addition, my online marketing analysis shows that my products are correctly priced vis a vis my competition.

I do have SSL and accept Master and Visa Cards. I was thinking that maybe PayPal would boost conversion rates.

    Just a few quesitons:
    1. Does anyone know how I could do a quick pop-up if a potential customer exits my store without buying, to ask the customer someting like this: "Would you feel more secure if this site offered PayPal? Y/N" and then gather metrics.
I don't want to intrude with a lengthy survey and I don't want to be ineffective due to popup blockers.

    2. I am asking this wise community to provide feedback -- negative and positive are ok provided that the feedback is constructive. Anyone can identify errors, but to add value we should create a solution.

At the end of my Mother's Day discount, I will incent new customers to create accounts by offering a 10% discount.

    Thanks,

    Richard

When you say 'hits', do you mean hits or do you mean unique visitors?

Looks to me like you've done just about everything right. I can't see anything about your site that would scare me away if I were looking for jewelry, except maybe its simplicity. Many jewelry sites I've seen have more complicated and, well, more expensive-looking templating.

A tiny nitpick that probably is just me - making me promise that I've read your privacy statement before I can create an account is really annoying.

Edit: Also, is it possible that these hits are the result of your competition clicking on your PPC ads?

    Thanks stevesh.
According to Google and Yahoo, my unique visitors are around 200 per day.
So there is no doubt that my advertising dollars are hard at work - although cost per click is high.

I agree on the "expensive-looking" issue and I was considering a little custom Flash work -- maybe a little clip of a Venetian gondola .... not too glitzy as it can hit against the "class" image of the company.

I also removed the privacy statement option.

Thanks again for your great input.

    You've probably seen this:

    http://www.moissaniteco.com/

I think one thing that helps that site a lot is the fact that the images all have the same (white) background as the page background, rather than the bordered pics with some different colored backgrounds on your site. Difficult to do, I know, unless you're a lot better than I am with Photoshop.

Yep -- time to get a good jewerly camera setup and get a consistent background for the images. $$$$

I kinda like the image borders as they match the website orange border. My friends tell me they like the warm colors of the website.

Maybe the store is a victim of high gas prices and low disposable income. I think Mom's are worth the price of the jewerly and the free shipping and discount should tip the decision point

    Thanks again.
