help question Vista -denied access to edit system32 files

I am following the ecart book and it doesn't mention Vista installation of Zen Cart on local machine ( why not??) It says to edit the file
    C: \WINDOWS\system32\dr ivers\etc\hosts

I can't do this because my system denies access even though I am the owner and am logged in as administrator with full control. Have tried changing permissions etc but still getting access denied. Can anyone tell me what to do about this please?

You'll probably have to right-click on your Notepad icon, choose "Run As", then enter the username for your top admin account, then when Notepad opens, you should be able to edit the file.

Or just skip that step altogether and access using http://localhost instead of http://www.example.com
Or just go direct to a real webserver instead of your home PC.

    Hi and thanks for replying.

Have tried right clicking on notepadad admin but the files are hidden when I go to the folder that way.

I found another thread on this after I had posted. (I had done a search but it didn't come up. Sorry to create another thread.) There it was suggested that installing should not be in Programs. So I uninstalled and installed again on C\ and that allowed me to make changes.

    Thanks again

    Liz
