Help! Whole store has disappeared!

Hey all,
I was just about finished setting up the store when I tried to find out how to delete that annoying "Congratulations! You've installed Zen Cart...." at the top of the page.

Without knowing about the Override system, I edited the index.php file in the English folder under Languages under Includes. Now that I made the change, my site is gone! I tried undoing the change (which I did) but it didn't help. I even tried copying an unedited copy from another backup directory.

Anyone know how to recover from this?? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Sounds like a bad upload of the file after your edits.

Re-upload originals of the affected file(s), so you go back to square-one.

You should use ADMIN>>>TOOLS>>>developers tool kit to find text strings that you want to "erase" or edit. Typically, these are preceded in the PHP with the word "define".

The part you edit in a "define" statement is the text string enclosed in a set of single quotes: eg:-

  define('BOX_TELL_A_FRIEND_TEXT', 'Tell someone you know about this product.'); 

Let's say you don't want any text to show for this define. You simply remove the text, making sure to LEAVE the single quotes:-

  define('BOX_TELL_A_FRIEND_TEXT', '');

Sorry about the double-post. I'm a little frantic and I didn't know what category to put this in.

The original index.php was restored to it's original state but there was no change. It's as if the code that displays the home page has simply vanished (or at least the calling of the code).

The site is www.solarlogos.net/catalog/

It can be seen that there is no referring URL so something is definitely up.

I've attached a zip file that contains:
1) the index.php file that is under includes/languages/english
2) index.php under the root directory of the store

I've gone through them but cannot find any obvious problems. Again the only file that I modified was the first index.php under the English folder and it was only to delete some displayed text. Nothing else was touched!

I've tried uploading again and again. Nothing.

HAHA!! I found the problem! When editing the file, I made a backup of the original and called it index_old.php. When I deleted it, the problem disappeared! It must not like any file name that's even similar to the original.
