Default Your database appears to need patching to a higher level.

    Hi

I'm not a complete newbie ie have several sites installed using zencart. But each installation tends to be a bit like the first time as they aren't happening every weeke.

I have installed a new zencart installation using the latest version 1.3.8a. The installation appears to have gone through ok, but when I go into the admin section I get the dreaded "Your database appears to need patching to a higher level." error message at the top. I also get a blank page when going to the main home page.

When I look at the version page I get some nonsensical stuff

    PROJECT_VERSION_NAME PROJECT_VERSION_MAJOR.PROJECT_VERSION_MINOR
    Patch: PROJECT_VERSION_PATCH1:ROJECT_VERSION_PATCH1_SOURCE
    Patch: PROJECT_VERSION_PATCH2:ROJECT_VERSION_PATCH2_SOURCE
    Database Patch Level: 1.3.8
    v1.3.8 [2008-06-03 20:54:18] (Fresh Installation)
    v1.3.8 [2008-06-03 20:54:18] (Fresh Installation)

It appears there is some issue with retrieving the version of the actual code as it seems the database patch level is correct.

I did encounter a problem with cURL being reported with permission problems when installing. I was able to carry on past this and complete the installation.

Could this be contributing to the pathc level problem?

    Many thanks

Did you figure out a solution to this problem? I am having the same issue.

I have fixed the problem. It appears to be a bad upload of code files. I reloaded all the zencart files and recreated the database ie basically started over from scratch.

    This problem has gone away.

    Woo hooooo

So I suggest you try the same thing, if you haven't already.

    Thanks for the information,
however I have rebuilt this site 3 times now in the last month, considering I build other sites with zen-cart, I am rapidly loosing my love for the thing.
I really do not wish to, want to, or need to rebuild this one again, if its just a patch. I will keep hunting, thanks

Your database appears to need patching to a higher level.

You can also get that msg. if you install fresh then import a Database which used an older version of Zen Cart.

I do beleive the msg. within Zen Cart is a link but if not, this Tutorial gives a good overview.

Nappy Nature, what happened when you did try to upgrade your Database?

I am having the same error.

I installed ZC in my local server and then uploaded it to the web server, copying it to the web server and now am getting this error. When I go to the server information tool, I see this near the top

    Zen Cart 1.3.8a
    Database Patch Level: 1.3.799999999999999822
    v1.3.799999999999999822 [2008-05-04 19:20:03] (Fresh Installation)
    v1.3.799999999999999822 [2008-05-04 19:20:03] (Fresh Installation)

What can I do to fix this? I really don't want to create the whole thing in the web server again! Besides being the exact same files, and being more trouble to work with the host server than my local one in the laptop, I already added 4400 products in over 60 categories!

    Help please. Thanks!

I now tried uploading the ZC install folder and doing a db upgrade and get this near the top:

Database Information -- Upgrade Sniffer predicts: *** No upgrade required ***

    I don't get it...

Fixed it. Posting it in case it helps someone.

Searched for the error message in the language file, found what the constant was, searched for that in the source files and found where the version was checked for the database. It's in the db table project_version.

In my local server it says 3.8, in the uploaded version said 3.799999999999999822. Don't have any idea how that got changed, but it had, so I fixed it back to 3.8 and the message went away.

I only did this change like this cause I'm certain they're the same install, but if you're not sure, you may want another approach.
