Can't locate the error - all checkout going to blank screen no matter what the config

Beating my head on this one for days, have tried every trick I can find on the Wiki, the board, everywhere.

Site for the most part is going well, and has been for some time.
After the last update, I suddenly have "HOME_PAGE_TITLE" instead of my browser title (a minor irritation at present, I'll find that nasty code somewhere), as well as a persistent issue with the Page Editor.

My real problem, is no-one can check out!
I've taken Paypal (Website Payments Pro) offline, as I thought that was the problem... nope.

Not in the server error logs, btw... already checked.

This could be any number of things ...

My first thought is switch templates to the Classic template and see if things work ...

Does the checkout work?

If not, it could be one of the payment modules or one of the files for the checkout_payment pages ...

First check if it is your template ...

Next, what payment modules have you added? What changes to the checkout for any part of it have you made?

I haven't added any payment modules
(was thinking about google, but haven't)

Thought about installing the checkout steps ages ago, but don't believe I did. I've been comparing files offline looking for *anything* that could be the cause.

Ran the debug error utility, and got no errors in the cache file (yes, was set to write)
will try the alternative mentioned.

not only no errors on the debug utility, but get nothing (nada, zilch) with strict error erporting on.

took them off a brand spanking new unpack of Zen, and still no luck

well, looks like we're starting from scratch and rebuilding... got the checkout to work again so far on the test install, but something in the template file is broken on the product page

Off to find *that* error.
