    Default Attribute Issues

Okay, this is driving me crazy. I have two questions (which are somewhat related):

    1. I have used checkboxes for attributes (we have 4 for a product) and they seem to work fine. Each attribute has a discount associated with it ($3). However, as we noticed a couple of customers have selected multiple attributes and are receiving multiple discounts! Is it possible for them to be able to select only ONE attribute? I cannot for the life of me figure this out and I've looked everywhere.

    2. In an effort to change the above problem, I have attempted to switch to dropdown menu for the attributes, however it does not switch. It shows it as radio buttons with all of the attributes selected. What gives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This has been frustrating me for the last several months and I just need to get this problem solved and not rely on the customers to "only" select one attribute.

    Thank you!

If you use checkboxes, multiple selection will always be possible. Radio buttons only allow one attribute to be selected at a time, if that's what you want. A link to a product would help us see exactly what you have now.

Ah yes, that would be helpful:

Here is one. As you can see, we are stuck with "all" being selected whether we select radio buttons OR dropdown.

The issue here is that multiple option names are being used on a single product to provide the attribute(s). The correction would be to use a single option name that has multiple option values such as Adult, Student, seniors, etc... Also, an option should be added that in the attributes controller would be identified as display only and default that indicates that the individual should choose one of the below options. That is unless one makes adult the default (no discount) and leaves the consumer to identify if a discount should be selected. Also, though, it seems apparent that either this has just become a hassle or that the process isn't working to validate the discount type. Also, what if someone that doesn't fit any of those categories is to make a purchase? (Under 18 for example) are the options descriptive enough to support that?

I'm not sure why all of the radio buttons are selected, but if the site were mine, I would delete all the attributes and start over, choosing radio buttons when creating attributes. I would also create my custom template - you're using the Classic template now.

One option value associated with one option name in radio button format, each such radio button is selected. Four option names each with one option value displayed as a drop down or radio button equals four buttons selected. (Dropdowns with one value are displayed as a radio button).

As for the template, totally agree, somewhat was hoping that this might have been a development site presented to us.

Fyi, when the new template is installed/chosen, if there are currently plugins installed, a level of reinstallation will be needed/should be reviewed. If not done we can expect a return to the forum to address that issue as well. :)

I am not a web designer, nor pretend to be. We just need the site to work. It doesn't need to look pretty and the look of it really has no affect on whether or not someone will purchase a ticket from us. At some point in the future, we hope to change it to make it more user-friendly and look a lot nicer, but for now, the look and template is what we got.

Thank you for clearing it up the confusion. It has helped greatly!

Grant you that about the experience level. Understand though that there are plenty of free templates on this site that require little more than following directions. A few do have some corrections identified in the associated forum, but those too are straight forward. (There's also the possibility of someone installing one for you if you have found another that you like.)

It isn't about appearance so much, but when you upgrade your site to the next Zencart version, all the files in the 'classic' folders may be overwritten, erasing any edits you may have made. It's just good Zencart policy to create your custom template first thing, even if you use all the files from the Classic template in your custom template folders.
