I feel like I'll be blind from reading this thread before I'm done. I am a business operater not a unix/linux expert. I do not write php. I began with Zen Cart 2 years ago. I can tell all of you that SEO URLs improve search position. You have to wait a long time to build enough traffic. I have several products that are in the top 10 on google. My sites that are not SEO often do not even have their products indexed. So lets stop the techie vs business debates and solve this problem. I avoid problems by trying to avoid upgrades since stability is the key to making money. Do not change things for your customers. I was perfectly happy with 1.2.4 on 2 of my sites and 1.2.7 on another. But, my host is forcing all Zen people to upgrade. (They value techinical issues over my making money too) I managed to get one site to 1.3.5 (minus SEO) before 1.3.6 came out and put me back to zero. People who use CMS do it so they can run their busniess, not spend their time on software.
If I lose SEO, I lose 2 years of position building. If I can not turn on the HTTPS, my host will close my site. So, with all this brain power, does anyone have an answer that will work and can be understood by a person who runs a business not a data center?
It is exceedingly difficult to be nobody but yourself in a world that is trying; night and day; to make you everybody else.
I feel for you. I have been avoiding upgrading from 1.3.5 to 1.3.6 knowing that one day I would have to bite the bullet and charge forward. I too wish that it was easier keep up with the upgrades and changes that happen all the time.
BUT...Your request for support was rude and it seems that you are ungrateful for the service this contributor has given you.
First of all there are security issues that have to be addressed with each and every upgrade.
Second the world doesn't stop for zen cart. Software has to be upgraded in order to make it compatible with operating systems, server environments, browsers, merchant card processing systems, shipping interfaces, search engine processes, etc etc etc.
Third this is a free module for a free cart. It sounds like you are forgetting that contributions take time and sweat to build. Then they have to be tested and upgraded with each and every new release of zen cart. They also have to live up to the standard of compatibility with software other than zen cart; ie, google's constantly changing environment. If a contribution is popular then supporting it is a consistent concern and most contributors have real jobs where they need to make real money to support their real families.
Fourth if you just want to run the business. Do that. Hire someone to update your carts. If you don't have the money to do that then welcome to the club. that's why we're here. If you don't have the time to invest in supporting your store well then maybe you should find another line of work.
The contributor is working on overhauling this module but I can tell you that it is not going to be built to support all versions of zen cart. And it is not going to be the be-all end-all of upgrades or modifications. It too will require support and revision just like all the other software in the world.
Here's what I suggest...especially when leaving messages on this forum...
be patient, be polite, be grateful, be generous and be industrious.
good luck to you

I'm now installing 1.3.6.
Will install all the other modules I have in my site but hold of on SEO URL for the results of this development effort.
Dreamscape, is it fair to assume that the result will be fully 1.3.6 compatible?
I would certainly want 1.3.6 supported - its actually pretty close to 1.3.5 anyway
Dreamscape - your thoughts? ideas? timescales? what can we do?
Thanks Dreamscape - I just added another $25 to the kitty. Get yourself a little somethin' extra when the port is done. Perhaps a cold one, to celebrate a job well done!
okay so I just upgraded to zc 1.3.6 and I am having the ssl problems as well.
was there any solution to that at all? a workaround? anything until dreamscape gets this mod working for 1.3.6?
Looks like I'll have to do a backup and then restore my previous backup and then once the mod is complete i'll do a restore of the last backup and then...
oh man it's gonna be a long week.

whoa! I think I figured it out. I actually went back to dreamscape's site and noticed that one of the files that was changed in 1.3.6 was the html_output.php file in /includes/functions/ folder.
I did the required code changes suggested on dreamscape's installation page for the seo urls and now i get ssl pages. I didn't have to do any other changes.
I'm not sure if this was something that was already suggested or not but it worked for me.
