I figured out the illegal character thing. There's a setting for the bulk upload file in the Google Products console for the character encoding. I changed it from UTF-8 to Latin-1, which allows those characters.

Ok. I figured it out.. just had to look. Hopefully this helps somebody though.

After my second try installing EP, it created 2 separate records in the table: "configuration_group"

In you admin, check the id# of the extra one that most likely takes you nowhere, delete that from the database.

    Hope it helps someone.

After reading about easy populate returning a blank page - I checked with my host. If you are uploading via easy populate and it returns a blank page it is because your browser has timed out cause easy populate does not send anything window - your host can change that. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in....

Now I'm getting something new - I have upload the feed via Upload EP File & Import from Temp Dir (temp/) all works fine, I even get:

    File uploaded.
    Temporary filename: /tmp/phprtLYGr
    User filename: Full-EP2007May11-1010.txt
    Size: 4749382

    UPDATED! - Model: D529-0006 | Descriptio | Taxable Go | 1 |
    UPDATED! - Model: H56-2026 | Descriptio | Taxable Go | 1 |

    and so on.....

    but nothing gets updated.

    Any ideas here?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
I'm looking for some advice. I'm using Easy Populate, and it seems to be working great.
The problem I'm seeing is in Excel the Description is cut off. So I tried Open Office, and Easy Populate won't use the files it creates. There's extra characters at the end of each field. I haven't changed any of the settings in Open Office so if anyone knows how to get Open Office working with Easy Populate I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks.

How are you trying to use Open Office with Easy Populate..
did you download a test file from your existing store,
created by EP, first, to use as a template?

    Hi,

Will it be okay to delete the files in /temp folder?

I want the full description to upload, and Open Office will show the full description. Excel on the other hand cuts off at 256 characters.

I did get easy populate to load, and split one file using open office, but it did not see the "EOREOR" at the end of the row and only updated one item for the entire file uploaded.
I know it's got to be something simple, but for the life of me I can't see why it doesn't work.

I can save the upload file using open office, and it won't work. Then take that file and open it in excel and re-save it, and it will work.

Hvae you added products with a category description, and then downloaded sample file produced using Easy Populate?
It should give you a template from which to proceed further.

okay I have been trying to find a quick way to update inventory quantities for a while.

I get an updated xml feed from the supplier whose inventory is most crucial. I know how to convert the xml feed to an sql or excel file or at least I hope it is right.

what do I need to do in easy populate to update the inventory quantities?
I want this to be relatively simple and quick so I can do an inventory update and backup daily. will the standard easy populate work for this or do I need easy populate advanced?
