Do you have SSL set to "true" in the config.php file? AND THEN DO YOU HAVE A FUNCTIONING SSL Certificate?

Sorry, I meant to ask you these questions to obtain answers as to how you are currently configured.....If SSL is set to false in the configure.php then this should not be an issue....only if it is set to true and there is no SSL then it might act like what you have stated.....

You do not require an SSL to be able to login...but one should be considered if you are going to accept credit cards for purchases.
They are available at many sites.

    What are your session settings?

Does turning off Recreate Sessions fix this issue?

You are more than welcome ...

Note: turning off Recreate Sessions is less secure ...

You may wish to check with your hosting site as to why you need to turn off this setting and if they couldn't set up the server better for you ...

    Hah!

I asked them to upgrade my PHP version once before and they essentially just laughed. They have more than just a couple of customers on each of their servers and so couldn't at the request of just one customer.

What they suggested I do was buy one of their dedicated server packages.

anyway never mind. I would hassle their tech support guys except that their choice of e-commerce solution is OSC and so they don't typically know too much about Zen-cart. Speeeeewin'!

    Thanks again though.
