Show Discount On Main Page?

Sorry if this question has already been asked before. I have a hard time finding exactly what I'm looking for with the search feature. It pulls up way too many threads to sort through.

Anyway, I would like to know how to advertise a discount coupon (or "sale") on the main page. I made a coupon for 10% off for purchases made from now through the end of December and would like to have it advertised on the main page so that customers know it exists from the second they go to mt site. Does anyone know how to do this?

Ok, what I was referring to originally was a discount coupon that I made, and I still want to know how to advertise it on the main page. But I also used the salemaker to make a storewide sale of 10%. Obviously it shows the new sale price of everything, but I'd like to know how to advertise that specific sale on the main page as well. For example, the name of the sale is "December Deals!" and I'd like my main page to have a place where it says "December Deals! Purchase between now and Dec. 31st for 10% off of your total!"
