I am new to Zen Cart and am working on version 1.3.8a. I am trying to set up a system where customers can order a free sample of a product before placing their order. The sample is one piece from a box containing multiple pieces or for larger items a cut piece of that item. They will have to pay a reduced rate of postage and packing for the sample which is then reimbursed when they place a full order with the store.
I have been trying to set up the sample as a product attribute but can not get the pricing to work properly. I've tried it as a factor of the product price, but if I put it at -1 it shows correctly in the admin sector but when I add one to the cart it adds it to the price instead of subtracting giving me double the charge. If I put it at -2 or more it just shows the base product price with no alteration. I am not sure how to sort this out or whether what I am trying to do is impossible. I'm also not sure if it is possible to alter the shipping price and automatically generate a discount coupon for an attribute to make this work.
The alternative is to set up separate sample products for all products and then link them to the originals but I'd rather not do that if possible.
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks
