Thanks DarkAngel the above post was spot on.
Thanks DarkAngel the above post was spot on.
Hi, have some sites building on Apple Zen.
Issue: we want to have right column appear only on product page. Turn off for homepage, categories listing page, etc.
I have the code set for most of this:
Right Col on for product:
http://www.findmyhomecomingdress.com...omecoming-gown
Right Col off for category listing, homepage:
http://www.findmyhomecomingdress.com/hannah-s-short
Problem: the grey background still shows where right col would be, and center box does not move over to right.
Solution?
We know about the stylesheet fix to make a one column site, but with this on, it moves the product right column down below the product and to the left.
Thanks
sph
not sure with this theme since it is set up for those columns to show...and removing the grey from there would only leave a big blank spot....it would not make the page go wider cause the block panel would still be there for the rest of the shop.
maybe a different theme would be more lenient? or if the wide space to the right is not a bother try removing the color ref for the blocks there...mebbe
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've already tested with success on another template. AppleZen is a different animal though.
Whatever template I use, I'm probably going to move the category column to the right col, to get the product up higher for search engines to read. And drop the left col altogether. I like the seo theory of AppleZen template.
it is a very good template although a bit tuff to get it to do what we want...lol but keep trying and it might work.
Think we may use applezen template, mostly because of the built-in dropdown menu and it's seo optimization. The seo seems paramount now, getting the product name & description up higher as google reads.
Problem: In IE6, IE7 and even some IE8 browsers, the "Shopping Cart" at end of menu drops down under the Home menu.
I've enabled (I think) the additions to htaccess.
Did quick search of thread, but no solution that worked so far.
Main site that currently wraps in some browsers:
http://www.prommart.com/
A test site that no longer wraps (insofar as I can determine), but I took out the Information menu:
http://www.prom-mart.com/
I did widen the sites, as per a very early post.
Any solution short of taking items out of menu appreciated. I've seen several applezen sites with full menu that do not wrap in browser shots.
I mean the main navigation part, the Shopping Cart moves under Home.
You can see it by pasting my site
http://www.prommart.com/
in to the online browser view I use and selecting IE 6 & IE7:
http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php
When I take out one of the navigation cells, it should look okay (although it does show the pink expages nav I'm not using):
http://www.prom-mart.com/
you should be able to move the coding in that drop down menu file in your apple_zen template folder to wherever you wish.
I know the site I did this for he had name changes has other things his way there...lol but he did try to move the shopping cart to under home and set something else there for the empty space---which later I found could have been dealt with by making the navigation area wider....in the css file for AZ template
I've already widened the template and nav menu, to what the designer suggested in a very early post. Since this template does not go by pixels, it's a guess if I wanted to go wider.
As much as I like the seo idea behind AppleZen, I'm finding that the drop-down menu is risky, browser-wise. Several of our people are seeing different things.
Perhaps swapping out the drop down menu for one of Find em Fast's might work?
Or just go back to more standard templates. I've noticed that others can do SEO, having a standard left col but having it all appear at bottom of View Source, as with AppleZen, bringing the products toward top: if seo optimization of products is the criteria.
Drop-down/Fly-out menus are great for seo, so search engines can see all categories and subcategories: they are always "open" to engines but tidy for customers; not all going down side.
Just not sure about AppleZen's stability, although it is a fairly old template, should be stable for all browsers?
