    Default Removing Mandatory requirements

    Hello:

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post. I've been searching for a solution for a while, with no luck.

I want to remove the mandatory red '*' from the customer Mailing address and phone number information. Since their mailing information is part of the PayPal process, I don't think we should require our customers to have to do this twice. Can I bypass this portion of the checkout?

Personally, I don't recall ever needing to give my phone number when checking out of any other site. If my phone number is mandatory, I cancel my purchase, and go look elsewhere for what I need, as I don't give out my phone number online, except in correspondence. So, I feel that I shouldn't make it mandatory on our site for our customers.
    This is really frustrating.

    This might work:

Far as I know, you can also set the value in Admin - Configuration - Minimum Values - Telephone Number to '0' (or maybe leave it blank) and remove that field from tpl_modules_create_account.php.

As far as the shipping address, assuming you're only using Paypal Express, I usually just remove the 'Checkout' button, so the Paypal button is the only option.

There are some things you can turn off in admin->configuration->customer details, but this isn't one of them. You'd have to modify the code to make it not force entry of the phone number.

Two parts to removing the phone number requirement:
    a) The "red *" is just text in your language file. Remove it from the language file and it won't show on the screen.
    b) And, as stevesh has said, set the minimum value to 0 and the field will no longer trigger a problem during validation.
    That's it. Easy.
