Default Can this number of queries be true for a webpage?

My site has had some pretty bad performance issues lately. I decided to use the later part of today to figure out what's going on.

I see that people have queries from the DB in the hundreds. I just turned on the parse time and I'm seeing this:

    Parse Time: 7.101 - Number of Queries: 20630 - Query Time: 6.0216968845977

    Parse Time: 6.479 - Number of Queries: 20564 - Query Time: 5.1285040288086

    Parse Time: 6.342 - Number of Queries: 20784 - Query Time: 5.2204237714692

I know I have a lot of attributes, and a lot of info on my web page - but should I be looking for something more - like some sort of error in the code that's generating too many queries?

Have you tried turning off your so-called SEO addon? I've seen those things generate a ton of excess queries.

As for narrowing down whether those extremely high numbers are caused by attributes, what happens if you visit pages of products which don't have attributes assigned to them?

What pages are you getting those high numbers on? Is it "all" pages? or just "product listing" (category) pages? just Product Detail pages? is there any pattern?

Do you have a lot of sales enabled?
    A lot of complicated taxes?

Does it make a difference if the customer is logged in or not?

What addons do you have installed?

TE: When making a post, be sure to include relevant information such as:
    • What version of Zen Cart are you using?

    1.3.9h

    • Has your site been upgraded? When? From what version(s)?

I upgraded to 1.3.9h when it was released. I changed my template about 2 months ago.

    • What addons have you installed? When

    Lightbox
    Recover cart sales
    Ultimate SEO
    blank side box
    easypopulate
    google analytics
    quantity discounts
    testimonial manager

All of these add ons were installed quite some time ago. Biggest change I made to the site was adding about 100 more embroidery designs - that change was made 2 months ago. Performance has degraded since then, but not immediately following that update.

In what ways is your site customized or different from a brand new uncustomized install?
    • If you're encountering display/layout problems, post your site URL* so it can be seen in action.

    Fine.

    • If you're encountering problems that could be related to your server or hosting company, include the name of your hosting company (not their URL).

Hostgator. Been working with them. They say updating to VPS will help, because we'll have a dedicated SQL server. I don't know if that will matter, just because of the sheer number of queries.

Yes. Found some helpful info, but nothing relating to the huge number of queries.

    Yes.

    • WHEN did the problem "start"? How does that compare with other events of your hosting company, changes you've made to your site files/addons, or your admin settings, etc?

Issues really started about 3 weeks ago - I called my hosting company, and it got a bit better for a little while. Didn't last long.

I haven't tried this - but the seo addon has been there for a long time.

    HOME page
    Parse Time: 0.230 - Number of Queries: 146 - Query Time: 0.031492489608764

    Category page with 4 products
    Parse Time: 0.689 - Number of Queries: 316 - Query Time: 0.4014554276886

Category page - first 18 products of 91
    Parse Time: 0.461 - Number of Queries: 833 - Query Time: 0.19136379776001

    Product page - NO attributes
    Parse Time: 0.279 - Number of Queries: 258 - Query Time: 0.038196524902344

    product page - full attributes
    Parse Time: 8.127 - Number of Queries: 20613 - Query Time: 6.8353197070465

Looks like maybe I'm just taxing the DB too much on those product pages...

Do you have a lot of sales enabled?
Just one sale - problem was there before sale was enabled.

A lot of complicated taxes? NO taxes.

Does it make a difference if the customer is logged in or not? NO

Are "all" the attributes associated with that product necessary? (Sometimes people just blindly copy-all-attributes from one product to another, instead of selectively assigning only a correct meaningful set of attributes.)

Can you turn off that SEO/rewrites as I am finding other issues with your site like losing the shopping cart when I click certain links ... and that could be part of this issue with losing text attributes when forced selections are not made ...

The shopping cart sidebox will slow down/add queries too ...

I'm running 1.3.9h - upgraded a couple of times over the years.

I would agree with the sidebox issue, except the sideboxes are also shown on the home page and the category pages (where appropriate), and they're not generating that many queries.

The one thing that could be causing the issues is the "Click to see front designs" etc. - that was an "unsupported" addon given to me by haredo. I didn't have this problem with the smaller number of designs - and I don't think this problem started immediately following adding all the new designs, but it might have...

As far as the attributes on the site - yes, we need them all. Actually, I have customers asking for more. Customers will purchase anywhere from 1-50 items at a time - usually around 1-8 range. Each shirt can be customized.

I've turned off the shopping cart sidebox.
    Product page:
    Parse Time: 6.780 - Number of Queries: 20808 - Query Time: 5.656609680481

I turned off SEO URLs -
    Product page:
    Parse Time: 7.242 - Number of Queries: 20568 - Query Time: 6.1252357140045

It's just gotta be the number of designs. Let me know if you think of anything else to try!
    Thanks!

You might try creating the product:
50s Party Print Retro Bowling Shirt Made in the USA

Fill in all the fields including text fields but do NOT select a size ...

When you go to add to cart, it is going to tell you to pick a size ... scroll down and see if you lost the TEXT input boxes ...

If so, try changing to the Classic Template and then test it ... does the same thing happen?

Is this a clean v1.3.9h or an upgrade from 1 or more versions?
