Default Save my sideboxes layout as the default - mod

This is not so much a (hopefully unnecessary) support thread as a bit of advertising that this mod exists/something for the Search to find.

I didn’t write it but I have found it useful and can’t find any other thread about it.

    What does it do?

It adds a button on the Admin->Tools->Layout Boxes Controller page which stores the current sidebox layout as the default.

So, if you switch to a new template, you'll be able to use the standard Reset button to restore your preferred sidebox settings as you had them rather than using the system default ones and then having to re-organise them again.

    Available here (while stocks last):

    Regards
    Steve

    Too funny!

Tomorrow I will be uploading 7 or 8 templates (I can never seem to find screen shots) and trying them out.

So I thought to myself, "Man... wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to save settings so you didn't have to go thru all the setup EVERY time you wanted to compare?"

I did a search and your mod popped up! Thanks, I will try it tomorrow.

Will your mod allow me to save the layout per EACH template or only one setting?

Next question... what about other settings, like those found in Cofiguration/Layout Settings? Do you know of any mods to save and quickly switch those?

Bet it wouldn't be tough to do...

Thanks for putting this mod up! I'll give you feedback after I try it.

It just changes the default setting, so only one per database.

Too tough for me! I did not write this mod, nor any others, I just tidy them up a bit and fix obvious mistakes.

If what you want is to save and be able to restore the configuration settings, I dont know if just exporting/importing the configuration table from phpmyadmin would be enough but that would be pretty quick at least. I have not looked for any mods to do that, not had the need really.

I think this mod is just for starting out/experimenting, I found it useful then but have not used it much since.

I agree with you. Probably will rarely (if ever) use it again after the site is completely designed and live, but it is very handy!!!

    Thanks!

I do wish it added one more button. Instead of over-riding the RESET button that already exists, I wish it added a second button called RESET TO SAVED SETTINGS.

This way you could look at the template in it's default settings AND then look at it configured the way you wanted.

I also wish I had a winning lottery and a pair of hot mud wrestling twins to give me nightly massages.

Having just looked at the layout_boxes table in the database I can confirm that I definately don't really know what is going on regarding saved sidebox layouts, not that I ever claimed to!

So, not much support available here then!
