    Default details about catDescContent

    Hi.

I recently added keywords and descriptions to all my categories(still in progress).

I'm confused as to with ZC is showing the keywords instead of the description(add in the Description section of meta) in the product display list. Because of this I'm tempted to put a display:none; in css but I'm worried about the effects on SEO which is the whole point of adding the keywords and description to start out with.

Can someone shed some light on this please?

    Thanks,
    Phil

How and where in admin did you add the descriptions to categories? I see appropriate keywords and descriptions in the view source metatags. The category descriptions on the displayed page have "description" text, not keywords:
    Personal Care
    Property categories:
Ensuring you and yours are using natural personal care products has never been more prominent.
But this looks the same as the meta description, and I don't see why you would have added "Property categories:" in front of every description.

hehe. you replied before I got a chance to update my post...

I found that I had added descriptions to the meta section within each category expecting the Description section in the product list page to reflect that. I now know that what I was looking for was the Category Description section in the editable section of each category.

As a follow-up question I'd like to ask: Aside from aesthetics is there anything I should know about the differences between the aforementioned "description" sections? I'm assuming that for seo purposes google and the likes see both sections but is there anything else that I should take into consideration? At the moment I have both sections filled with identical content.

Funny you should mention this...I didn't purposely add this and was going to ask how to remove it. That is, other than doing a display:none;.

Since I don't know how it would have gotten there without you typing or copying it in, I can't suggest a way to remove it.
I am not expert on SEO questions, so I will leave any response to others (mprough?)

Oddly enough I found this[1] in tpl_index_product_list.php which completely contradicts what's going on. I think it's obvious TM is playing a roll in this...Is there a place in the admin that deals with the display of the category description? I'd like to start there and work my way back but I can't find this.

Hurray for TM... they obviously know better than you what elements should be allowed to display
At least they commented it and described the edit in the file instead of just deleting it...
