Stock - Cust trying to order more than in stock

Hi all,

I expect this has been mentioned before but I need a little help.

I have been testing trying to order more of a product than what is in stock hoping to see a warning sign but when I hit the checkout button I loop back to the shopping cart with no explanation why I have been returned to this screen.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I may have missed in the product setup or configuration.

I need to sort this out before a customer tryes this and get jack of it and walks away

What's your setting in Admin - Configuration - Stock - Allow Checkout ?

Hi stevesh,

settings are as follows:

Check stock level true
Subtract stock true
Allow Checkout false
Mark product out of stock OUT OF STOCK
Stock Re-order level 5
Show available stock level in cart when less than order true
Display Images in Admin false
Products status in Catalog when out of stock should be set to 1
Show Sold Out Image in place of Add to Cart 1
Product Quantity Decimals 0
Show Shopping Cart - Delete Checkboxes or Delete Button 3
Show Shopping Cart - Update Cart Button Location 3
Show New Products on empty Shopping Cart Page 1
Show Featured Products on empty Shopping Cart Page 2
Show Special Products on empty Shopping Cart Page 3
Show Upcoming Products on empty Shopping Cart Page 4
Show Notice of Combining Shopping Cart on Login 1


I beleive False is correct as I don't want to allow them to checkout if there is not enough stock available. I am trying to ensure a warning comes up advising them of insufficient stock so that they know to change their qty.

Did you figure out your issue because I have client with same issue now.

I don't want to allow them to checkout if there is not enough stock available. I am trying to ensure a warning comes up advising them of insufficient stock so that they know to change their qty.

The default settings will indeed display that sort of message.
For example, go here: http://www.zen-cart.net/index.php?ma...products_id=22 and add 20 to your cart, and you'll see the error message.

Check stock level = true
Subtract stock = true
Allow Checkout = false (default is 'true', but 'false' will prevent checkout if they try to buy too many)
Mark product out of stock = ***
Stock Re-order level = 5
Products status in Catalog when out of stock should be set to = 0

hi moniocazim, the guys who built my site installed a newer stock module to my zencart 1.3.9 and is new working great, it now tells my customers there is not enough in stock. If you want to see it in action go to www.lowsodiumfoods.com.au and try and order 100 of any product.

Hi Christy,

I have sent an e-mial to my site administrator to see what version of the stock module he loaded to www.lowsodiumfoods.com.au. If he comes back to me I'll post the version details.
If you look at my site under each image of a product is the number in stock if you the try and add more than that number to your cart a message flashes up. Feel free to try this out on my page (no need to log-in as a member) so you can see what it shows.

Hi Christy & Monciazim,

My site administrator has come back to me with the details. He installed the following:

Stock Module: ‘stock by attributes 1.14’ for Zen Cart.

I hope this helps you out. As previously mentioned it is working really well for me.
