Default Hide Categories - Category Visibility Not Showing

I have just installed the Hide Categories 2.2 add-on in my test demo 1.54 store. Current live store is 1.39h, and uses Hide Categories, it works quite well there. (Do not know what that version is, as it has been years since first installed)

I installed all the required, plus the optional files. Went through below steps, and created category, modified the product type name. However, when I close/reopen the category, I am unable to see the category visibility like in my live store under the earlier Hide Categories. I am using the Bookshelf template, which sometimes did not have things in the same folder structure as the install file, so in those cases, I added a bookshelf folder under to match the install folder structure, and loaded it with files contained in install file. Do not know if this has any affect, and am trying to get a list of those 3 or 4 folders that I added. Didn't know at the time, that I would need to keep track of them and FileZilla only tells me folder modified date, not create date. So am trying some other FTP programs to get that list of folders in case it makes a difference. Will post that info when complete.

"To configure this new product_info template, do the following:

    1. Go to Catalog > Product Types
    2. Edit "Document - Product"
    3. Change "Product Type Name:" to "Product - Hidden"
    4. Select "Product Hidden" in the "This product type should be considered a sub-type of" dropdown

To apply the hidden product template to your hidden products follow these steps:

    1. Go to Catalog > Categories/Products
    2. Create a new category
    3. Change "Restrict to Product Type" to "Product - Hidden"
    4. Click "Add include SubCategories"
    5. Click "Save"
    6. After saving the category, set the "Category Visibility" "

Was not successful using any FTP program to simply find folders created on a certain date, which would have been the extra bookshelf folders mentioned above. So I ran a winmerge comparison between installed demo and the original 1.54 download. Attached shows what's in my demo after installing Bookshelf template and then adding and folder structure to match the hide categories structure. I am not at all sure the extra folders created are the problem.

When I did the comparison, I also noticed these two files were not in my docs folder. Did my FTP (FileZilla) miss them when I first loaded the 1.54 folders to the demo site, or are they removed in the zc_install process? Not sure any relation to this issue, but it was noticed, so I would like to be sure if they should or should not be in docs folder.

Sorry to not have direct feedback on this issue, but it would be best addressed if posted in the forum for the plugin (best practice).

Welcome and good luck. I've also notified (I think) the appropriate ZC personnel to add the link above to the plugin to make it easier for others to find in the future.

Update. After un-installing/re-installing, and no reply on other link, here is the decision/solution. My original purpose was to use EZ pages for navigation vs categories, as that is what I'm using in the live store, and it works much better for our need. Only needed to make these changes, turns out don't need HideCategories after all.

    1. Uninstall HideCategories (maybe try at later date after demo store complete)
    2. Turn Off sideboxes/categories.php in layout controller
    3. Leave EZ Pages On
    4. Modify EZ Page title if needed. Mine now says CATEGORIES (includes/languages/english/extra_definitions/ez_pages_definitions.php)
    5. Add/modify EZ Pages as needed, set sidebox in EZ page on or off as needed.

Further update for info only: After dropping tables and importing from live store to bring all categories/products over to demo test store, I started having alot of issues with the custom template I was using (Bookshelf - issues could have been I did not install right in demo store). So I went back to classic, re-installed hide-categories, and it works well with classic.

Could have also been sql commands that needed to be run against the transferred database to support the template and other "features" that are/were on the demo... I'm not fully familiar with the setup that is/was on the demo site, so don't know if there is anything to that, but it seems that if the demo site was otherwise generally operating fine before receiving the old database, then it would seem that the only difference is/was really the contents of the database, though the issues haven't been described either... So just sayin'.
