Hi All,
Fresh install of 1.5.5e on a PHP5.6 server. Not having much luck finding a mod/plugin to friendly up the URLS. Know of anything? Is this possibly built in now and I'm just missing it in the admin?
Thank You,
John

Not built in, but there have been some modifications made to possibly make it "easier.
There are two generally accepted "make your url pretty" plugins: Ceon (SEO) URI Mappings and Ultimate SEO URls (USU). Mind you that there are hundreds of lengthy discussions throughout this forum about the pros/cons of using such software. Should consider if such rewriting is necessary/beneficial before modifying how the site operates. I personally prefer the first plugin because every uri generated can be manually overridden or otherwise manipulated, while the secod follows such a set of rules and while automatic does not offer the same level of flexibility (though does offer a different type/style of flexibility).

I've been using ultimate seo urls for many years, but it does not say that it's compatible with 1.5.5, just up to 1.5.4. I have no experience with CEON. I guess I'll give it a shot and see how it works. Thank you.
ok. so after unpacking the ceon plugin I find that there are overridden core files for 1.5.5a. As I specified this is a fresh 1.5.5e. Do you know of any issues with this? Thanks again, John
will do. thank you!
Another thing... now that it has been identified that the site has previously been using USU, there are two things that come to mind as a suggestion.
1) stick with the existing software but seek whatever upgrading is necessary to it within the forum for USU.
2) if you are going to switch, then recommend also "impressing" to Ceon URI Mappings the addresses that previously existed for the product so that those links are not lost. In the end only one such software package can be installed and operational otherwise there are likely to be unusual results.
As to the file overwrite/modifications. The Ceon fileset tends to include a "modification 1 of x" type note within the file(s). That change made to the file is really what is important between versions.
Also, regarding the current "presentation" of Ceon URI mappings, the files are actually spread around a little and need to be consolidated. Ceon.net appears to be back up and running, perhaps they will get everything together to issue a consolidated revision.

this site wasn't previously using USU. I said it's a brand new fresh install. The use of USU is on some other domains/sites. Aside from that. Is there any way to have the CEON module rewrite urls for contact, login, about us etc... pages? Thank you
Yes, a sql command is run/written to address such other pages. The manual identifies what is necessary and the forum thread has examples.

I'm having trouble getting CEON to work as desired with define pages. All other page types seem to work just fine. Do you know if it's possible to use the latest version of Ultimate SEO Urls with support up to 1.5.4 with a fresh ZC1.5.5e? There are only a couple of files that are overwritten and I haven't yet looked at the differences, but I've used USU many times in the past and much prefer it over CEON.
Thank You,
John
