If it's displaying 50 items instead of whatever you've set for a maximum, then you're using an old version of /includes/modules/also_purchased.php (or have an override in /includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME/also_purchased.php that's based on an old version).

Solution: Use the file that came with your version of Zen Cart.
If you've got an outdated override version, update its contents to work with the new logic that's supposed to be in it. Or just delete the override copy to revert back to default.

Thanks Dr. Byte! It was an override in my Winchester Responsive template. Removing the override has restored the functionality.
