How to offer free shipping and force Ground

The site is trackreadyproducts.com, we're going to invest in $$$ FB advertising and promote free freight for certain products, such as some of the racing seats. Due to the dim weight of seats, even ground freight can be $80, so free shipping should be very attractive to the buyer. The Fedex plugin is the only active shipping module on the site.

I can offer free freight by a) enabling it in the seat's product profile or b) turning on the Free Shipping Options plugin and configuring the parameters to kick in based on value, however I need to force it to Fedex Ground or else buyers will upgrade to Fedex Overnight and I'll be in the soup line. If they want to upgrade to a faster service and pay for it, that's fine.

Thanks, but I don't see how to force the shipping to be Fedex Ground if it's free.

You don't - it will just show "Free Shipping" which you will use ground for. If they select Fedex (any variant) it will cost extra. You can even provide shipping timelines and say Paid Fedex Ground will be shipped out faster; some storeowners do this to encourage people to pay for shipping.
