Wow, this is a great thread. I went from being totally confused about attributes to actually thinking I know how to use them...

    My questions are:

    1. As shown in the link below, I am trying to add options to products. All the options are optional. The customer buys a chair and has the option to purchase cushions for the chair and gets to choose the cushion color. Easy. BUT, using the dropdown for the option, makes the option mandatory and not optional. So, I change to radio, but I get a long list... And since there are other optional options with color choices, is there any way to make this a little easier to display? Can the customer have the option to add cushions and select the color from a dropdown?

    My Webpage
(the layout is screwed, I know, got to see the options first )

    2. Somewhere in the last 40 pages I read about changing the option name comment field length.

What I would like to do is put a link to the product page for each option listed. Do I change this value in the db and if so where? Because right now the whole link doesn't fit somewhere and screws up the whole layout.

AND, can I put the option comment field underneath the option name instead of above?

    Thanks,
    Tina

If you have a list of Optional as Radio Buttons ... set the first one as:

Option Value: Option or Add-ons or something appropriate and as the default ...

Hi Linda, thank you for your quick response.

    I don't get it.

Some options are checkboxes and others are radio. The radio options a choose color of the option. The color is not the option for the product. It's the option for the option... and the option is optional. :)

    Scenario:

    Buy chair and table set

Want a cushion with that chair?

Yes, ok, well choose the cushion color. (radio of colors)

How 'bout an umbrella for that table? (checkbox)

Currently if I use a dropdown for the option the option is added to the cart regardless. It's not a choice.

How do I implement what you are trying to communicate to me?

    Sorry

    You have:

    Code:
    Cushions:
    Blue (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    Green (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    Red (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    White (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    Add:

    Code:
    Cushions:
    None
    Blue (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    Green (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    Red (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
    White (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
And set the default to none

OK, got that. Thanks. I think I will forego the other part of my question due to lack of motivation... :)

Thanks for your help. Really. You are magnificent!

    Well...

I've a product that has one addon product but the addon comes in 3 different shape, 8 Designs, 16 colors, and 2 lines of personalized text.

Is this possible? I would like a check box for the addon and when the box is checked it make the shape, designs, colors... etc available.

    Thanks.

Currently, Zen Cart does not support dependant attributes ...

You could setup the options as attributes, but the testing for when one group of Option Values is selected in relationship to another is not built in at this time ...

Hello, I am very new to using Zen-Cart and have tried to read up through some of the forums... this has answered several questions but I still have something that I can't figure out.

    Here's the lay out:

I want to sell photography online. I would like to have different "albums" or categories in which different products (photos) would be displayed. For each photo, I would like to offer several buying options from prints of different sizes to different products all listed under the specific photo.

    For example:
    category: Nature
    product: Duck
    items offered: 5x7 glossy
    5x7 matte
    mouse pad
    puzzle

I would like each product to display unique price and be able to select more than 1 and tell how many per item...

is this possible without setting a "new product" for each item offered?

Also I would like to know why it tells me I don't have permissions to write an image to a file or to edit a file through the HTMLarea editor...

    Thanks
    Christina

You did say you didn't want to create a new product for each item that one particular photo embellishes... and I'm no expert... Semi-new to Zen Cart myself, so (take this with a grain of salt), why not make each item an Option of the Photo itself? Then, set dropdown values for these options:

    Duck Photo is the Product.
    Option Name 1 is Mousepad
    Option Values for Mousepad are
    Select From... (display only)
    1 Pad
    2 Pads
    3 Pads
    4 Pads etc.

Then, set the Price attribute with a weight attribute.
Invitations to blue water retreats glady accepted.
