I use FlashFXP myself ...
This is not a free version, but they may have a trial version ...
I have never regretted buying FlashFXP since day one several years ago and not experienced any FTP issues since I started to use it ...Linda McGrath

I restarted the ftp and just started it where it stopped last time and it seems to be going. I am keeping my fingers crossed but I have a feeling that I have really messed it up BIG time.

Got it all ftp and it still gives me Illegal Acess error when I try to log into admin panel and if I type in the store, it gives the following error:
1054 Unknown column 'user_agent' in 'field list'
in:

The SQL error message you're getting (re: 'user_agent', etc) indicates that the database-upgrade step hasn't been completed yet.
You now need to open the zc_install/index.php via your browser, and on the 3rd screen ("System Inspection"), do NOT click "Install"... choose "Database Upgrade". Then follow the prompts to upgrade through the steps required for your site.
The Admin errors indicate that you haven't fully upgraded the admin files by FTP yet..

did just the database upgrade and now get:

You definitely haven't got a good fileset on the server. You'll need to redo your FTP upload for all files.

I too am having a similar access problem, when I try to access my test cart I receive:
