    Hi All,

I should mention to the community that I am considering transitioning future versions of QBI for ZenCart to no longer be free contributions. This would of course not include bug fixes, but would include versions with new features, such as international and multiple tax rate support. I want to be carefull here not to violate the rules of the forum, but I thought I should mention this and see what the reaction is to avoid any misunderstandings or upset people! Versions 3.00 and up for osC are already no longer free. The source code is still visible.

QBI is the result so far of 554 hours of work! 262 of that was developing version 3, which has versions for both ZenCart and osC. At this moment, QBI for ZenCart has been downloaded 1364 times, and the number of people who have voluntarily contributed so far fits on one hand. I'm sure that many people's stores are more efficient and profitable because of it, and for me the voluntary contribution route just isn't working. Let me know what you think. And in the meantime, if you want to convince me otherwise, you are welcome to contribute via PayPal to sales --ATTT-- libermansound --DOTTT-- com.

    Thanks!
    - Adam

if the new version work for me and the price is fair i cannot see why i will not contribute.
but you can surely understand as of now i cannot contribute to something i cannot use (actual version ).

so if you want do pre-sale and assure i will be able to use it (canadian version), please tell me it and i will contribute now.
    no problem on that.

id gladly pay for it if it was fully functional, bug free and didn't cost a fortune.

Just read these last few posts and I am a bit disapointed that this is potentially going to go commercial.

Adam, you certainly know how I feel about paying for buggy software. Unless future releases are drastically refined and simplified I would definately not pay up front. Now the catch 22 is how do you know that unless your able to test it out.

I just arrived back home from Iraq where I was cooresponding over the months that I've been trying to get QBI to work. I will now have time to get it working properly, i hope, and when and if i do i will gladly contribute what i tihink it is worth. I am hoping to get that done today or at least this coming week.

I would guess just because there are as many downloads as is being listed it does not mean that there are that many people using the software. I myself have downloaded it 3 times. and still not using it.

I'm not sure what your motivation was for writing the code but from my observation most people in the OS community don't seem to do it merely for the money. You've told us many times how much work you've put into this and when it is functioning properly I will be greafull for your efforts but I would never blindly contribute money for something that may or may not work out of the box. One can argue that you pay for Microsoft software and it is "buggy" but basically it functions when you install it and you can accomplish what you need to do.

If you do decide to go the paid route hopefully someone will take the open code and continue to improve on it.

ya, i wouldn't pay much for something that is buggy and difficult to install/set up/use. However if it was bug free and the set up and use was user intuitive, id gladly pay for it.

I should note that i have no idea how it works currently . i have been patiently waiting V3.03 before i install .

I really wish you would stop calling it buggy software. The few bugs in 3.02 are minor, and do not affect most people. QBI is used by thousands of people (2,500 downloads that I am aware of (between purchases, Zen-Cart, and a download link at CRE), and that's not even including osC which doesn't display downloads and easily could be 6,000 more), and feedback I've received has been overwhelmingly positive. The model for many open source projects is that the software is free, but advanced support is not.

I already relented a few posts back and offered to give you some free help to solve your issue, so you would stop berating my software in the public forums. So, please email me or send me a private message via the QBI forum at www.libermansound.com/qbi and lets get your issue solved right away!

    Thanks,
    Adam

I am going to try to get it done this weekend. The fixes are relatively minor, and updating is very easy (just replacing files, no code to change). Any database changes are done automatically when you open it.

    Thanks,
    Adam

    Adam,

I am not the only one that has made this comment. You were looking for input on this. The summarized version of what I was trying to say previously is, no i would not pay for it in the state that it is in based on my experience with it so far. I shouldn't need any to very little support for a commercial product. When i buy software i want to instal it and go about my business not have to fiddle and tweak to get it to work.

You have offered to help but as I stated previously I will try to work it out on my own I just haven't had time until now.

Here is a question for you, for those that do donate before you go commercial, will they be privy to updates?

I will take the rest of my comments to PM here at the ZC orum, I don't feel like registering at another forum I already have too many to keep track of.
