Hey Barcelona,
Assuming you've already read all about overrides, creating your own custom template and BACKING UP!, all you gotta do is browse to: /includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/ and find tpl_index_default.php. This is the template for your main page. If you don't have a custom template setup you should really read up on how to do it. If you don't care about custom templates and just want to do it tpl_index_default.php will be in /includes/templates/template_default/templates/.
Alright, so edit the file and if you look at the code most of it makes some osrt of sense even if you're not a php/coding expert. Assuming you have your button all ready to go you would add the following code whereever you want it to show:
Code:
<a href="http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?main_page=login"><img src="http://www.yourimagepath.com"/></a>
You could also wrap it in a div or assign it a class so you can do some styling with CSS?!
Hope that helps.
